I love this time of year. I've been a Badger fan all of my life and a basketball fan most of my life. While wins are always welcome, basketball offers so much more. Basketball tournaments are on the way, and like John C. Maxwell says, "some will win and some will learn." It is amazing how a sport I quit has done so much for me and meant so much to me.

Here are some of life's lessons from the game:

1. The Power of Teamwork and Selflessness

Basketball is the ultimate team sport where success depends on players working together, sharing the ball, and putting the team’s needs above individual glory. From teaching 3rd graders to pass rather than hog the ball to watching college players set slip screens or make the extra pass, you see firsthand how teams thrive when individuals buy into a shared goal.

Young kids learn to bounce back after missing a layup, while college athletes face the pressures of big-game failures. The game reinforces that setbacks are temporary and learning opportunities.
